The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle

The story begins five o'clock in the morning with 2 ladybirds, a friendly one and a grouchy one meet on the leaf. The grouchy ladybird wants to fight with the friendly one, who wants to share aphids on a leaf. However, the grouchy ladybird feels the friendly one is not large enough for him to fight.

The grouchy ladybird flies around and meets insects, bird and animals, increasing in size as he goes along. He challenges each one of them to fight but turns down each time, making the same excuse, "Oh, you're not big enough". Lastly, he meets a whale, the largest known animal. He challenges the whale to fight. When he finally challenges the whale's tail, his tail slaps him and sends him flying back to where he starts earlier in the morning... He decides to be nice and shares the aphids with the friendly ladybird.

The book is interesting, the size of the page increases in proportion to that of the animal. The book is also very colourful. There is even an analog clock on every page that shows the time of day that the grouchy ladybird flies.
